Great Ocean Road · Australia's legendary coast tour
The Great Ocean Road is known as one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world. It winds through pristine beaches, cliffs, tropical rainforests and charming towns, like a flowing landscape painting. For countless travel enthusiasts, this road is a legendary destination on the bucket list.
This nearly 300-kilometer coastal road, located west of Melbourne, stretches from Torquay to Allansford and is one of the most representative self-driving routes in Australia. What's more touching is that it not only has beautiful scenery, but also carries a profound cultural history - the Great Ocean Road was built to commemorate the soldiers of World War I. More than 3,000 veterans participated in its construction. Construction began in 1919 and the entire line was completed in 1932.
Along the way, the scenery is dazzling: tranquil bays, surfing paradises, pristine rainforests, steep cliffs, mysterious caves, and diverse wildlife along the coast. The most famous landmark is the Twelve Apostles - those natural limestone pillars isolated in the South Pacific, carved by sea wind and waves to form a natural wonder like a supernatural work.
This coastline is also known as "Australia's most legendary coast". The monsoon from the Antarctic Circle blows all year round, rolling up huge waves and beating the limestone coast, shaping spectacular coastal sculptures. Standing on the top of the cliff, you can hear the roar of the waves like a symphony, and see a dreamlike picture of mist in front of you, as if you are between heaven and earth.
